During testing, we were big fans of the 9 Masks of Fire slot design. It’s simple, yet effective, and doesn’t clutter the screen with too much detail or unnecessary animations. The bright red background and floating embers are a great touch, and make you feel like a fire is burning right below the game.
It’s best described as a mix between a video slot and a classic reel slot; the animated flames on the edge of the gameboard and the fiery streak that highlights the payline during a win wouldn’t look out of place in any modern video slot, but the “thud” of the reels stopping in place has a distinctly retro feel.
The game is enhanced by its excellent sound design, which features an authentically tribal backing track which adds to the tension. There are also chanting sound effects that play whenever a Mask symbol appears, and we found it really grabs your attention if you’re not looking at what’s happening.
