MuchBetter is an e-wallet that lives entirely in a phone app. You hold a balance in the app, send it to a casino from the cashier, and receive withdrawals back to the same balance. There is no website login and no desktop version, so you need an iPhone or Android phone to use it. The wallet launched commercially in November 2017.
For customers in the UK and the rest of the world outside the European Economic Area, the wallet is operated by MIR Limited UK Ltd, a London-registered electronic money issuer authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (firm reference number 900704). In the EEA it is provided through QuickPay Limited in Ireland, which distributes electronic money issued by Sureswipe E.M.I. PLC, an institution authorised by the Central Bank of Cyprus. You must be at least 18 to open an account.
MuchBetter also offers a prepaid Mastercard in the UK and EEA, as a free virtual card or a physical one, and a contactless payment ring. Top-ups earn MB Coins: one coin for every 10 units of currency you add, and 100 coins convert into one unit of cash in your wallet.
The casinos in the list above accept MuchBetter. Once you have picked one, a first deposit takes four steps.
The cashier only needs your phone number. MuchBetter has no web login, so do not type your passcode into a casino site or any other web page.
Withdrawals run the same way in reverse. In the casino cashier, choose MuchBetter and request the withdrawal to the phone number registered on your MuchBetter account. The casino then reviews the request. MuchBetter says this review typically takes up to 72 hours, depending on the casino, and that once the casino releases the payment it reaches your wallet within a few minutes.
From the wallet you can send the balance to another casino, spend it with the MuchBetter card, or withdraw it to your bank. A bank transfer out of the wallet takes 3 to 5 business days and carries a fee, and MuchBetter can take up to 24 hours to approve a withdrawal before it is sent. If your casino account and your wallet are in different currencies, a conversion is applied, so the amount that arrives can differ slightly from the amount you requested.
Moving money between your wallet and a casino costs nothing. The charges come when you load the wallet, take money out of it or convert currency.

Two other costs can apply. Your bank may treat a card top-up as a cash advance and charge for it. If you dispute a card top-up through your bank, MuchBetter charges £30 for the chargeback.

Even in a supported country, whether a particular casino offers MuchBetter depends on local rules and on the licences that casino holds, so the cashier has the final word. Great Britain has one further rule. Since 14 April 2020, gambling businesses there cannot accept credit card payments, and that includes e-wallet money that was loaded from a credit card. Use a debit card or bank transfer for any top-up you plan to gamble with.
The app is protected by a passcode, with fingerprint login as an option. Signing in on a new phone needs an activation code sent by text to your registered number, and the app logs you out after 90 seconds of inactivity. Every casino deposit has to be approved inside the app. If something goes wrong, support is by email and through the assistant in the app.
Your balance is electronic money, not a bank deposit. MuchBetter must safeguard customer funds, but the Financial Services Compensation Scheme does not cover the account, and accounts in the EEA are not covered by a deposit guarantee scheme either. In 2023 the EEA service was interrupted after problems at MuchBetter's previous European e-money partner, whose licence was revoked by the Bank of Lithuania on 22 June 2023. MuchBetter relaunched in the EEA that September with a new partner, and says it settled affected customers' balances from its own funds once they accepted the new terms. It makes sense to keep only your playing money in the wallet and to move winnings on to your bank.
The split between gaming and non-gaming balance is a useful budgeting line: money you load by card as non-gaming cannot be sent to a casino.
