• 20 June 2024 — ANJ, the French gambling regulator, orders ISPs to block cresuscasino.com. Its official communiqué cites "numerous reports from people who do not receive their winnings" and warns players about non-payment, payment fraud and data theft. ANJ noted the site drew over two million visits in May 2024 — France's biggest illegal casino at the time.
• After the block — the operator dodges enforcement via mirror domains such as cresus-casinos.com, triggering further ANJ blocking orders.
• July 2024 — a criminal investigation opens, seeded by ANJ player complaints.
• 9 October 2025 — French prosecutors arrest two executives, presented to a Paris judge on charges of operating illegal gambling as an organized gang (up to 7 years / €200k fine) and money laundering. Investigators estimate roughly €1bn in revenue since 2020, routed through Cyprus and Curaçao shell companies.
• Around 18 October 2025 — the site goes dark for good; players report being cut off from accounts and pending balances, including one reported case of €87,000 frozen.

What this means for players

An unlicensed casino means no regulator can force a payout — ANJ could block and prosecute, but not refund. The documented victim losses in the criminal file and the unpaid-winnings reports that triggered the block are exactly why licence checks matter before depositing anywhere.
