How betting odds work
Three ways of writing the same price. The calculator converts between them as you type.
American (moneyline) odds
A plus sign shows the profit on a 100 stake (+150 wins 150); a minus sign shows the stake needed to win 100 (−200 means bet 200 to win 100). Favourites carry a minus, underdogs a plus.
Decimal odds
The total return per 1 staked, stake included: 2.50 pays 2.50 for every 1. Multiply by your stake for the payout. Evens is 2.00.
Fractional odds
Profit over stake: 6/4 wins 6 for every 4 staked. Add 1 to the fraction for decimal odds (6/4 = 1.5 + 1 = 2.50). Evens is 1/1.
Implied probability
1 ÷ decimal odds: 2.50 implies 40%. The implied chances on every side of a market add up to more than 100%; the excess is the bookmaker's margin — our no-vig calculator removes it.

Questions
How do you calculate a betting payout?
Convert the odds to decimal and multiply by your stake: that is the total payout, stake included. Subtract the stake for the profit. At decimal odds of 2.50, a 10 stake pays 25.00 — 15.00 profit plus the 10 back.
What does +150 mean in betting?
Positive American odds show the profit on a 100 stake: +150 wins 150 for every 100 bet, so a 10 bet returns 25 in total. It is the same price as decimal 2.50 and fractional 6/4, with an implied probability of 40%.
What does -110 mean in betting?
Negative American odds show how much you stake to win 100: at -110 you bet 110 to win 100. A 10 bet returns 19.09 in total. The implied probability is 52.38%.
How do I convert odds to a probability?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds: 1 ÷ 2.50 = 40%. For American odds, a negative line −A gives A ÷ (A + 100), a positive line +B gives 100 ÷ (B + 100). The two sides of a market add up to more than 100% — the extra is the bookmaker’s margin.
What is the payout on 5/1 odds?
Fractional 5/1 pays 5 profit for every 1 staked, plus the stake back: a 10 bet returns 60. That is decimal 6.00 and American +500.
What is a value bet?
A bet whose odds pay more than your own estimate of the chance says they should. If you think a team wins 45% of the time and the odds imply 40%, the expected value is positive. Open "Is it a value bet?" in the calculator to see it and the Kelly stake.
