Three ways to hedge

Equal profit

Hedge stake = original payout ÷ hedge decimal odds. Every outcome returns the same, so the result is locked in.

Break even

Hedge stake = original stake ÷ (hedge decimal odds − 1). If the original bet loses, the hedge returns what you staked; if it wins, you keep most of the profit.

Somewhere in between

Use the slider to pick any stake and see the result if your original bet wins and if the hedge wins. More hedge means less risk and less upside.

Questions

How do you calculate a hedge bet?

To lock in the same result whichever side wins, divide your original bet's total payout by the hedge's decimal odds. A 20 bet at +600 pays 140; with the other side now at -150 (1.667), hedge 140 ÷ 1.667 = 84.00 and you make 36.00 either way.

When should you hedge a bet?

When your original bet has gained value and a guaranteed result matters more to you than the bigger, uncertain one — often the last leg of a parlay or a futures bet near the end of a season. Hedging reduces risk, not the bookmaker’s edge.

Does hedging cost money?

On average, yes: the hedge is a second bet with its own margin, so a hedged position is worth a little less than an unhedged one in expected value. You are paying for certainty.

How do I hedge a parlay?

Enter the parlay’s combined odds as the original odds (or use our parlay calculator to get them), then the odds against the last leg as the hedge. The equal-profit stake locks in a result before the final game.

What is a break-even hedge?

A smaller hedge that only gives your original stake back if the original bet loses, keeping most of the upside if it wins. In the example above it is 30.00.
