Read it across: Martingale reaches the target in 61% of sessions against 9% for flat betting, but it also runs out of money in 39% and stakes far more along the way. Per €100 staked, every system lands close to the 2.70% house edge — the small differences are chance, and shrink as you run more sessions.

The roulette strategies, explained

Martingale

Double the bet after each loss, go back to one unit after a win. Every win recovers the losses and adds one unit. The catch: seven losses in a row — on red, about a 1-in-106 chance from any starting point — need 128 units on the eighth spin. The table limit or your bankroll ends the progression there, and that one run erases dozens of small wins.

Reverse Martingale (Paroli)

Double after a win instead, and bank the profit after three wins. Losses stay small, wins come in rare bursts: the mirror image of Martingale, with the same cost per euro staked.

D'Alembert

Add a unit after a loss, take one off after a win. The progression is gentle, so it lasts longer than Martingale, but a losing stretch leaves you betting several units to chase a small target.

Fibonacci

Bet along 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 … moving one step up after a loss and two back after a win. It climbs more slowly than Martingale, so busts take longer, and a win no longer recovers every loss.

Labouchère

Write a line such as 1-2-3-4 and bet the two end numbers together. Cross them off after a win; add the lost bet to the end after a loss. Finishing a line wins its total, but a bad run makes the line — and the bets — grow fast.

Flat betting

The same bet every time. The least exciting, and the one that stakes least for the same time at the table — which, with a fixed house edge, means it loses least.

Change the house edge. Doubling, streak-chasing, “hot” numbers or covering most of the table all leave the average loss where it was: 2.70% of everything staked on a European wheel, 5.26% on an American one.

What is the best roulette strategy?

No betting system changes the house edge, so the best strategy is about where and how you play: choose a single-zero wheel (2.70%) over the double zero (5.26%), use French La Partage tables for even-money bets (1.35%), bet a size your budget can take, and decide when you will stop before you start.

Does the Martingale strategy work?

It wins small amounts often and loses large amounts rarely. Doubling after every loss means a run of losses quickly needs a bet your bankroll or the table limit can’t cover, and that one loss wipes out many small wins. On average it loses exactly what flat betting loses per euro staked — it just stakes more.

Can you win at roulette?

In a single session, yes — often. Over time, no: every bet gives back less than it takes on average, so the more you stake, the closer your result gets to the house edge. The simulator shows both at once: plenty of winning sessions, and an average that is always a loss.

What is the James Bond roulette strategy?

Twenty units split across 19–36 (14), the 13–18 six line (5) and zero (1), so 25 of 37 numbers win something. It is still a set of normal bets with the normal 2.70% house edge on a European wheel: it loses all 20 units on any of 1–12.

Is there a roulette strategy that always wins?

No. Each spin is independent and every bet on the table carries a house edge. A system can only move money between many small wins and a few big losses (or the reverse). Anyone selling a guaranteed roulette system is selling the system, not wins.

Does roulette get "due" after a run of reds?

No. The wheel has no memory: after ten reds in a row, the next spin is red 18 times in 37, exactly as before. Systems built on streaks or "hot" numbers rely on that mistake.
