How we calculate the chart

For every starting hand and dealer card, our solver works out the average result of standing, hitting, doubling, splitting and surrendering by following every card that can come next — with each card leaving the shoe as it is dealt, for the number of decks you choose. The chart shows the option with the best average. When two options are within 0.05% of the bet, the trainer accepts either.

It assumes a freshly shuffled shoe every round. Split hands are valued one at a time, the standard method.

What it can do

Cut the house edge to the lowest your rules allow — 0.40% in a six-deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17.

What it can't do

Turn the edge in your favour, change the next card or make a betting system work. Every move can still lose — the chart just loses least over time.

Blackjack odds, house edge and RTP

Worked out from the same exact shoe as the chart, for a player who follows it. RTP is 100% minus the house edge: 0.40% in a 6-deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17 is an RTP of 99.60%.

Each round starts from a freshly shuffled shoe. A player edge means these exact rules favour perfect basic strategy; real single-deck games usually take it back with worse rules, such as blackjack paying 6:5. “No hole card” is the European deal, where a dealer blackjack takes your doubles and splits too.

Insurance pays 2:1 when the dealer shows an ace. With your own cards unknown, the hidden card is a ten 30.87% of the time in 6 decks, which makes insurance a 7.40% house-edge bet (7.47% in 8 decks). Every side bet here costs you several times more than the main game played by the chart.

Questions

What is a blackjack strategy chart?

A table that shows the best move — hit, stand, double, split or surrender — for every hand you can hold against every card the dealer can show. Playing by it is called basic strategy: the way of playing that loses least over time.

Is the chart the same for every blackjack game?

No. The number of decks, whether the dealer hits soft 17, the doubling and splitting rules, surrender and the hole-card rule all change a few cells. Set the rules to match your game and the chart and house edge update straight away.

Can I print the chart as a cheat sheet?

Yes. Set the rules to match your game, then press Print cheat sheet: you get the three tables — hard totals, soft totals and pairs — on one page, with the rules printed underneath.

Is this a blackjack simulator?

The Play hands mode deals full rounds from a freshly shuffled shoe, with a dealer who follows the rules you set, so you can practise real hands for free. No money is involved and there is nothing to download.

What is the RTP of blackjack?

With the chart in a 6-deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17 and blackjack pays 3:2, the house edge is 0.40%, an RTP of 99.60%. The rules move it: a dealer who hits soft 17 adds 0.21 points, and a 6:5 blackjack payout adds 1.36. The odds table on this page lists every rule.

Are blackjack side bets worth it?

Not for the odds. Perfect Pairs has a house edge of 6.11% in 6 decks with the common 25/12/6 paytable, and 21+3 between 2.74% and 4.62% depending on the paytable and decks — against 0.40% for the main game played by the chart.

Should I ever take insurance?

Not when you play basic strategy. Insurance pays 2 to 1, but the dealer’s hidden card is a ten less than one time in three, so the bet loses over time — about 7% of what you insure in a six-deck shoe.

What is no-hole-card (European) blackjack?

The dealer takes a second card only after you have played. If it makes blackjack, you lose everything you bet on the hand, doubles and splits included. That is why the chart stops doubling and splitting against a 10 or an ace in these games — except splitting aces against a 10.

Why did I lose a hand I played correctly?

Many hands are close to a coin flip even when played perfectly. The chart picks the move that loses least, or wins most, over thousands of hands — not the one that wins this particular hand.
