Penalty Blast is a football-themed video slot from Belatra Games, released on 24 September 2026 for desktop and mobile, starring the studio's recurring character, The Guy. The headline numbers: an RTP of 96.00%, medium-high volatility (4 of 5 stars on Belatra's roadmap), a maximum win of 10,000x the stake, and a bonus feature the studio says arrives once every 162 spins on average. The demo above is served from Belatra's own demo server, so it is the same build a real-money lobby runs, minus the real money.
How Penalty Blast Plays
There are no paylines. Penalty Blast pays on clusters of five or more identical symbols connected horizontally or vertically. When a cluster pays, the winning symbols explode and every other symbol of that type on the grid is cleared with them. New symbols drop in and the grid is evaluated again, so one paid spin can become a chain of wins.
That extra clearing step is the detail worth noticing: it refreshes more of the board than the win alone would, giving the refill more room to form the next cluster. Belatra does not quantify the effect, nor does it publish the grid size, symbol set or paytable, so what each cluster size pays is unknown. On top of the cascades sit cash balls, a collecting Goalkeeper, three whistles and scatter-triggered Free Games.
The Features and What They Do to the Maths
Balls and the Goalkeeper
Balls carry cash multipliers and the Goalkeeper collects all the values on the reels. That is a collect mechanic running alongside the clusters, and a lumpy one: a Goalkeeper with one ball in view and one with several are very different events. Belatra does not publish the range of ball values.
The three whistles
Green triggers a ball attack, which the studio names but does not describe. Red clears the low-paying symbols for a fresh cascade, in effect re-rolling the weakest part of the grid at no extra cost. Golden sends you to the penalty spot. None of the three has a published frequency.
Free Games and Hot Mode
Four or more scatters award up to 10 Free Games, in which every Goalkeeper fills a progress bar above the reels that triggers win boosters and extra rounds. Six scatters start the round in Hot Mode, with two boosters already active. A round opening with at most 10 games is short, so its value rides on the bar: rounds where Goalkeepers keep landing grow, and rounds where they don't can end small. Belatra does not publish what the boosters do or how often six scatters land.
The Penalty Bonus
The Golden Whistle's shootout has you pick one of four target zones, each with its own risk level and payout multiplier, up to 250x. It is a volatility choice, not a skill test, and with no published odds or multiplier per zone, no zone can be shown to be better value. Even the top multiplier sits far below the 10,000x ceiling, so treat the shootout as a mid-sized payout.
Buy Bonus and Bet +100%
The Buy Bonus menu sells direct entry to the standard Free Games, Hot Mode or the Penalty Shootout. Buying skips the wait but concentrates a session into single high-variance events, and Belatra publishes no prices or separate RTP for any of them.
Bet +100% doubles the cost of every spin and multiplies the Free Games trigger frequency by four. Whatever the base rate, that cuts the average wait to a quarter of the spins and halves the average outlay between Free Games triggers. It is not necessarily better value: Belatra publishes no RTP for the mode and does not say whether base-game wins are paid on the doubled stake. Treat it as a faster, dearer route to the bonus.
Reading the Maths
At 96.00%, Penalty Blast has the lowest RTP among the 14 Belatra slots compared here, which run from 96.03% on Big Wild Buffalo to 97.02% on DanLudan's Fortune Bass. That is a 4.00% house edge against 2.98% at the top of the range. Inside one session, variance swamps a gap of about a point; over a playing history, it compounds.
- The studio's 1 in 162 is a feature frequency, not a hit rateit says how often the bonus arrives, not how often a spin pays anything, and Belatra publishes no hit rate. Nor does it say which bonus rounds the figure covers.
- The 10,000x cap is generous for a medium-high gamethe other two medium-high Belatra titles compared here stop at 5,000x and 3,000x, and 10,000x matches Ice Bass, Long Neck Fortune and Voodoo Coins, all rated high or very high. But a cap is not a forecast, and Belatra does not publish the odds of reaching it. The RTP sets a hard limit: in standard play, a game returning 96 of every 100 units staked could not pay 10,000x as often as once every 10,000 spins, even if it paid nothing else. Every other win draws on the same 96%, so the real odds are longer still.
Medium-high also puts Penalty Blast on the calmer side of a peer group in which 11 of 14 titles are rated high or very high, yet its bonus is slower than several of those. That suggests more of the return arrives between bonuses, or that the bonus rounds are less top-heavy; Belatra does not publish the split, so treat that as inference. If seeing the bonus is the point, size your stake so the budget covers at least two average gaps, a few hundred stakes before base-game returns.
How It Compares
| Game | RTP | Volatility | Max win | Feature frequency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penalty Blast | 96.00% | Medium-high | 10,000x | 1 in 162 |
| Big Wild Buffalo | 96.03% | Medium-high | 5,000x | Not published |
| Ice Bass | 96.07% | High | 10,000x | 1 in 93.20 |
| Digger's Fortune | 96.07% | Very high | 25,000x | 1 in 370 |
Against Big Wild Buffalo, Penalty Blast doubles the ceiling at the same volatility rating and publishes a feature frequency, for a fractionally lower RTP. Against Ice Bass it keeps the cap with a calmer rating, but the bonus takes noticeably longer and the RTP is slightly lower. Digger's Fortune shows the far end: 25,000x, bought with very high volatility and a much longer wait. The rest of the catalogue is on our Belatra games hub.
Who It Suits, and Who Should Skip It
It suits players who like cascades with a collect mechanic on top, want a high ceiling without the most volatile end of Belatra's range, and enjoy decisions: which zone to shoot at, whether to pay for Bet +100%. If that fits, our list of casinos carrying Belatra games is the place to start.
Skip it if RTP comes first: every comparable Belatra title returns more. Skip it on a small budget if you want frequent bonuses; Fortune Mummy, at medium-low volatility and 1 in 65.02, is the gentler option. And skip the extras if you need to know their value first: neither the buy prices nor the Bet +100% RTP is published. Treat any spend as entertainment with a built-in cost, not a way to make money. Casinofy is for players aged 18+.
Verdict
Penalty Blast is a well-built, feature-dense cluster slot. The 10,000x ceiling is generous for its volatility, the 1-in-162 feature frequency is published and moderate, and the whistles, Goalkeeper bar and penalty pick give the maths real texture. The deductions are concrete: the lowest RTP among its Belatra peers, an unpublished grid and paytable, and optional extras with no published price or return. Solid, with real caveats: worth trying in the demo for its structure, but not the Belatra title to pick if return per unit staked is your priority.
Penalty Blast pros & cons
- 10,000x maximum win is double the cap of the other two medium-high Belatra titles compared here, which stop at 5,000x and 3,000x
- Belatra publishes the feature frequency, 1 in 162 spins, so you can budget for the wait instead of guessing
- Each win also clears every other symbol of the winning type, so a payout refreshes more of the grid for the next cascade
- Options with stated effects: Bet +100% multiplies the Free Games trigger frequency by four, and the Penalty Bonus lets you choose your own risk level
- 96.00% RTP is the lowest among the 14 Belatra slots compared here, which run from 96.03% to 97.02%
- No published prices or RTP for the three Buy Bonus options and no RTP for Bet +100%, so neither can be checked for value
- Grid size, paytable, ball values and booster effects are unpublished, which limits how far the base game can be analysed
- The 1-in-162 bonus is slower than several higher-volatility Belatra titles near 1 in 100, and a bit more than a third of 162-spin runs pass without one
