What Entropay Was

Entropay was a prepaid virtual Visa card. You funded it from a bank card or account and it gave you a card number, expiry date and CVV that worked anywhere Visa was accepted online — including casino cashiers. Because the casino only ever saw the virtual card, your real bank card stayed out of the transaction, which is why it was popular with players. It was run by Ixaris, the company that introduced Europe’s first virtual prepaid card in 2003.

What Happened to Entropay

Entropay’s own website now carries a one-line notice: “The Entropay consumer product was discontinued on 1st July 2019.” Nobody has been able to open an Entropay account or create a card since that date, and any operator that still shows an Entropay logo in its cashier is displaying a method that cannot process a payment. The Ixaris group was later bought by the payments company Nium, with the deal completing on 31 August 2021, and Entropay survives only as a dormant brand inside that group.

What to Use Instead

The thing people liked about Entropay — a card the casino can charge without seeing your main bank card — is now covered by other products:

  • Visa debit — the default at every licensed casino; in Great Britain and Ireland only debit cards can be used for gambling, so a debit card is the like-for-like replacement.
  • Paysafecard — a prepaid voucher bought for cash, if the appeal was a hard spending cap with nothing linked to your bank.
  • Skrill and Neteller — e-wallets that sit between your bank and the casino and can also receive withdrawals, which Entropay never handled well.
  • Revolut — a current account whose cards are accepted like any other Visa or Mastercard debit card.

If You Still Hold an Old Entropay Balance

The consumer product closed in 2019 and its support pages are no longer maintained. Any query about a historic balance goes to the successor company rather than to a casino, and a casino cannot refund a deposit made with a card that no longer exists. If you are looking for a casino that “accepts Entropay”, the honest answer is that none does.

Is Entropay still available?
No. Entropay’s issuer discontinued the consumer product on 1 July 2019. You cannot open an account or create a virtual card, and no casino can accept a payment from one.
What replaced Entropay for casino deposits?
A Visa or Mastercard debit card does the same job at licensed casinos; Paysafecard covers the prepaid, cash-bought use case; and e-wallets such as Skrill or Neteller sit between your bank and the casino and can also receive withdrawals.
Why do some casinos still list Entropay?
