Captain Coil is a 6x6 cascading cluster slot from Bullshark Games, released on 3 February 2026 and distributed on Hacksaw Gaming's OpenRGS platform, which the studio confirmed to us. The headline figures are a default RTP of 96.29%, a hit frequency of 29.96%, a maximum win of 15,000x the stake and a volatility rating of 4 on the studio's own five-point scale. The demo above runs the studio's free-play build with a play-money balance, so you can watch the snake mechanic behave across a few hundred spins without staking anything. That matters more here than on most releases, because the shape of this game is defined by one feature that only shows up occasionally.
Captain Coil is not available to UK players. The studio's approved list covers Malta, Curacao, Denmark, Latvia, Spain, the Netherlands, Ontario, Romania, Greece, Georgia, Portugal, Colombia and Buenos Aires Province, with the UK, Sweden, Germany, Croatia, Italy and Brazil excluded. As always, 18+ only.
How the game plays
The grid is six reels by six rows and wins are formed by clusters of five or more matching symbols touching one another. Winning symbols are removed, remaining symbols cascade down, and new ones drop in. Cascades continue until no new cluster forms, at which point the spin is settled. There are no paylines or ways to track, which keeps the screen readable despite 36 positions in play.
Sitting over the top of every win is the Global Multiplier. It starts at 1x, applies to all wins, and in the base game it resets at the start of each new spin. That single rule tells you most of what you need to know about how Captain Coil distributes its money: the big outcomes are not built from one enormous cluster, they are built from a long cascade sequence in which the multiplier has time to climb before the final clusters resolve.
The Snake Pod
The Snake Pod is the engine. When it lands, a snake slithers across the reels leaving a trail of Wild symbols behind it, anywhere from 2 to 25 symbols long. Those Wilds are ordinary Wilds once the snake has finished expanding, so they cascade like everything else. The clever part is the multiplier trigger: if the snake crosses a regular Wild, or crosses itself, a random value is added to the Global Multiplier. The available values are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 75x and 100x.
Only one Snake Pod can land per spin, but further pods may appear on subsequent cascades, which is how a single paid spin occasionally snowballs. There is one restriction worth knowing: Scatter symbols cannot land on the same spin as a Snake Pod, so the two routes to a good outcome are mutually exclusive on any given drop.
The features, and what each does to the maths
There are two bonus rounds. Trail of the Serpent is the standard free spins round and the one you will actually see. It guarantees a Snake Pod on every spin, which converts the base game's rarest event into a baseline. Crucially, the Global Multiplier grows throughout the feature rather than resetting each spin, so the round is cumulative. Slither for Gold is the premium round, and it is extremely rare in the base game.
During bonus play, Food symbols appear. Each adds +1 to the snake's length, applied before win calculation and before the snake expands. Longer snakes mean more Wilds on the board and more chances for the snake to cross a Wild or itself, which in turn feeds the Global Multiplier. The studio's own feature text is truncated on the sheet where it explains what the Food symbol becomes afterwards, so treat that detail as unconfirmed until you see it on the info screen.
The feature RTPs are published and sit close together: BonusHunt FeatureSpins 96.32%, Fast Fangs FeatureSpins 96.31%, Trail of the Serpent 96.26% and Slither for Gold 96.34%. That is a tight spread and a good sign. Studios that price buys meaningfully below the base RTP are quietly charging a premium; Bullshark is not doing that here. The max win of 15,000x is reachable in all bonus games, which rules out the irritating design where only the premium round can go the distance.
Reading the maths
A 29.96% hit rate means roughly three in ten spins return something, and on a cascading cluster game a large share of those will be single small clusters at a 1x multiplier. The volatility rating of 4 of 5 is honest rather than conservative: the dead-spin rate is high for a cluster game, and the 15,000x ceiling has to be paid for from somewhere.
The bonus frequencies are where the session shape becomes clear. In the base game, any bonus arrives once in 259.0 spins, with Trail of the Serpent at 1 in 276.1 and Slither for Gold at 1 in 4,193.1. Read that second number properly: at a few hundred spins an hour, most players will never see Slither for Gold organically. It exists primarily as a purchase. BonusHunt FeatureSpins improves the picture to any bonus at 1 in 83.0, Trail of the Serpent at 1 in 93.4 and Slither for Gold at 1 in 740.8 — better, but still not a realistic route to the premium round for a casual bankroll.
Practically, budget in blocks of 250 to 300 spins if you intend to reach a feature from the base game, and keep the stake small enough that a dry run of that length does not end the session. The base game pays modestly between bonuses because the multiplier resets every spin; waiting is the cost of admission.
One more thing to check before you play. Captain Coil ships in two RTP configurations — 96.29% and 94.3% — and the casino chooses which one it runs. A two-point gap is substantial over any meaningful number of spins. Open the game's info screen at your operator and confirm the figure before staking; if it reads 94.3%, play it somewhere else. This applies across the studio's catalogue, not just here, and it is worth checking on every Bullshark Games release you come across.
How it compares
| Game | RTP | Hit rate | Max win | Grid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Captain Coil | 96.29% | 29.96% | 15,000x | Cluster (6x6) |
| Piggy Cluster Hunt | 96.23% | 38.34% | 15,000x | Cluster (7x7) |
| Junkyard Kings | 96.26% | 37.14% | 12,000x | Cluster (7x7) |
| Age Of Seth | 96.29% | 29.11% | 10,000x | Cluster (6x5) |
Against the studio's other cluster games, Captain Coil is the one that trades frequency for ceiling. Piggy Cluster Hunt matches the 15,000x top end with an eight-point higher hit rate and a lower volatility rating, which makes it the gentler option. Age Of Seth has a near-identical hit rate and the same RTP but caps at 10,000x — so Captain Coil is strictly the better-shaped version of that profile. Junkyard Kings sits between the two.
Who it suits and who should skip it
It suits players who enjoy a mechanic with visible state — watching the Global Multiplier accumulate during Trail of the Serpent is the whole appeal — and who are comfortable with long gaps. If you like cluster games for their steady drip of small wins, this is not that game; Piggy Cluster Hunt or Junkyard Kings will serve you better. If you buy features, the published feature RTPs are fair and the buys are priced sensibly against the base game.
Verdict
Captain Coil's maths matches its marketing, which is the only test I care about. The 15,000x ceiling is genuine and reachable from every bonus round, the feature RTPs are published and sit within a few hundredths of the base figure, and the volatility rating of 4 of 5 accurately describes a 29.96% hit rate with a multiplier that resets every base spin. The snake mechanic is a real idea rather than a reskinned multiplier wild, and the Food symbol gives the free spins round a sense of escalation that most cluster bonuses lack.
Two things hold it back. Slither for Gold at 1 in 4,193.1 in the base game is effectively decorative content for anyone not buying it, and the existence of a 94.3% configuration means the headline RTP is a promise your casino may not keep. Check the info screen, play the 96.29% build, and this is one of the stronger cluster releases in Bullshark's catalogue.
Captain Coil pros & cons
- Default RTP of 96.29% is above the industry average, and the bonus buy RTPs (96.26% to 96.34%) are not quietly discounted
- 15,000x max win is achievable in every bonus round, not just the premium one
- The Snake Pod and Global Multiplier combination is a genuinely original mechanic with visible, trackable state
- Volatility rating of 4 of 5 is an honest description of what the 29.96% hit rate actually delivers
- A 94.3% RTP version exists and casinos choose which to run — always check the info screen first
- Slither for Gold at 1 in 4,193.1 base-game spins is unreachable in practice without buying it
- Base game pays thinly between features because the Global Multiplier resets on every spin
- Not available to UK players, nor in Sweden, Germany, Italy, Croatia or Brazil
