Holy Heist is a 5-reel, 4-row payline slot from Bullshark Games, released on 25 June 2024 and built and distributed on Hacksaw Gaming's OpenRGS platform. The pitch is a gang of bank robbers dressed as nuns; the maths underneath is rather more interesting than the costume. Default RTP is 96.24%, the hit frequency is 24.75%, the ceiling is 20,000x your stake, and the studio rates volatility at 3 out of 5. Hold that last number in your head, because it is the one I think is doing the least honest work on the sheet.
The demo above runs the studio's own free-play build with a play-money balance. Nothing you win or lose there is real, and the demo will almost always be configured at the default RTP rather than whatever your casino has chosen to deploy. It is a good way to learn the wild behaviour and a poor way to judge the variance, because a few hundred demo spins is not remotely enough to see the feature land with any reliability. Content and play are 18+ only.
How the game plays
The grid is a conventional 5x4 with 14 fixed paylines, evaluated left to right. There are no cascades and no ways-pays expansion. You spin, the reels stop, lines are read, and the round resolves. That matters for how the game feels: with only 14 lines across 20 positions, the base game is comparatively sparse. Line games of this shape live or die on their wild logic, and Holy Heist loads nearly all of its character into exactly that.
Above each reel sits a multiplier bar carrying a single value. The starting set is 2x, 2x, 3x, 3x, 5x running left to right, and those values reset at the start of every new spin. They are not a meter you build across a session; they are a per-spin resource you either activate or lose.
The features, and what each does to the maths
Wild symbols and the Total Win multiplier
Every wild that lands adopts one of four behaviours: it reveals a number from 1 to 5, it becomes sticky, it expands into a wild reel, or it stays a plain wild. When a wild reveals a number, the multiplier sitting on top of that reel is added to the Total Win multiplier, and the whole spin's win is multiplied by it. Multiple numbered wilds sum rather than multiply, which is the key structural detail. Summing is far more forgiving at the low end than multiplying and far less explosive at the top, so the distribution of wins here is less bimodal than you might expect from a 20,000x game.
Expanding wilds filling a full reel and sticky wilds holding position across a spin both increase the chance that the 14 lines actually connect. Combined with the multiplier bar, the natural best case is a wild landing on reel five, where the 5x sits, while expansion or stickiness props up the line coverage elsewhere.
Holy Heist Spins and Extreme Holy Heist Spins
Two free spins rounds sit on top: Holy Heist Spins and the rarer Extreme Holy Heist Spins. Special symbols can boost the global multiplier inside the features, and the studio confirms the 20,000x cap is reachable in both the base game and the free spins, which is unusual and worth noting. Most studios park the ceiling exclusively in the bonus. Feature RTPs are published: Holy Heist Spins at 96.26% and Extreme Holy Heist Spins at 96.40%.
Buys and BonusHunt
The sheet lists several purchasable entries: BonusHunt FeatureSpins at 96.33%, Holy FeatureSpins at 96.32%, Holiest FeatureSpins at 96.35% and the two spins rounds above. Every one of those sits at or above the default base-game RTP, which is the right way round and better than a fair few buy menus I have picked apart. BonusHunt is a separate mode with its own frequency table rather than a one-click entry into the bonus.
Reading the maths
RTP versions
Holy Heist ships in two RTP configurations: 96.24% and 94.32%. Your casino picks which one it runs, and a player cannot tell by looking at the reels. The gap is nearly two full percentage points, which is roughly a 50% increase in house edge. Open the game's info or paytable screen before you stake anything real and confirm which build you have been served. If the figure shown is 94.32%, play somewhere else.
Hit rate and feature frequency
A 24.75% hit rate means roughly one spin in four returns something, and a good share of those returns will be sub-stake on a 14-line game. Expect stretches of eight or ten dead spins as entirely routine.
The feature numbers are where the "3 out of 5 volatility" label starts to strain. In the base game, any feature triggers once in 249.5 spins, Holy Heist Spins once in 260.8, and Extreme Holy Heist Spins once in 5,720.6. That is a genuinely infrequent bonus by modern standards. At 250 spins per trigger you are looking at well over an hour of steady play between features on average, and averages hide the tail: there is a meaningful chance of going 500 or 700 spins without one. In BonusHunt mode the rates tighten considerably, to 1 in 43.9 for any feature, 1 in 46.7 for Holy Heist Spins and 1 in 749.6 for the Extreme version.
Max win and bankroll
20,000x is the largest ceiling on Bullshark's current line-up, ahead of Piggy Cluster Hunt and Ancient Paws at 15,000x. A cap that high on a game labelled mid-volatility tells you most of the RTP is still being paid out in small line wins, with the top of the distribution reserved for a vanishingly rare confluence of numbered wilds and feature multipliers. Treat 20,000x as a lottery ticket, not a target.
Practically: size your stake so your balance covers at least 300 to 400 spins. On a 250-spin average trigger interval, anything less and you are paying for a bonus you may never see. If you dislike long dry runs, the base game here is not for you and the BonusHunt mode is the honest answer.
How it compares
| Game | RTP | Hit rate | Max win | Grid |
| Holy Heist | 96.24% | 24.75% | 20,000x | 5x4 paylines |
| Pickle Bandits | 96.27% | 23.78% | 12,000x | 5x4 paylines |
| Jawsome Pirates | 96.28% | 20.88% | 12,000x | 5x4 paylines |
| Ancient Paws | 96.16% | 26.35% | 15,000x | 5x4 paylines |
Holy Heist sits in the same sparse-hit family as Pickle Bandits and Jawsome Pirates but offers a far higher ceiling for essentially the same RTP. Ancient Paws hits slightly more often and is rated 5 of 5 for volatility, which rather underlines my suspicion that Holy Heist's 3 of 5 is generous. Who it suits, who should skip it
It suits players who like fixed-line games with clean, readable wild mechanics and who are comfortable grinding through quiet stretches for a shot at a very large number. The summed multiplier structure means decent mid-sized wins do occur in the base game, which softens the wait. It also suits buy-feature players, since every published buy RTP matches or beats the default.
Skip it if you want frequent action — Merlin's Mania at 35.77% or Piggy Cluster Hunt at 38.34% are better fits — or if you play short sessions with a small balance. Holy Heist is not available to UK players; the sheet also excludes Sweden, Germany, Italy, Brazil and several other markets, while listing Malta, Curacao, Denmark, Latvia, Spain, the Netherlands, Ontario, Romania, Greece and Portugal as approved.
Verdict
Holy Heist is a well-built, honestly priced line game with the most ambitious ceiling in Bullshark's catalogue and a buy menu that does not quietly tax you. The wild system is elegant, and the fact that 20,000x is live in the base game as well as the features is a real design credit. Against that, the volatility rating of 3 of 5 understates what a 1-in-249.5 feature rate feels like to play, and the existence of a 94.32% build means the game you are served may be materially worse than the one on the sheet. Those are specific, checkable faults rather than matters of taste, and they keep this out of the top bracket.
Holy Heist pros & cons
- 20,000x maximum win is the highest in Bullshark's catalogue and is reachable in the base game as well as the free spins
- Every published buy and feature RTP (96.26% to 96.40%) sits at or above the 96.24% default
- Numbered wilds that sum into a Total Win multiplier give the base game genuine mid-sized win potential, not just dead spins
- BonusHunt mode cuts the any-feature rate from 1 in 249.5 to 1 in 43.9 for players who want faster access
- A 1-in-249.5 base-game feature rate is far more punishing than the studio's 3-of-5 volatility label suggests
- A 94.32% RTP version exists and casinos may deploy it without obvious signposting
- 24.75% hit rate on 14 fixed paylines means long, flat stretches with no cascades to break them up
- Extreme Holy Heist Spins at 1 in 5,720.6 is effectively unreachable without buying in
