A crypto casino is an online casino whose cashier takes coins instead of, or as well as, cards and e-wallets. The games and your account work in the usual way. What changes is how money moves in and out.
Compared with a card or an e-wallet, these are the differences that matter:
| Question | Crypto | Card or e-wallet |
|---|---|---|
| Who moves the money | A public blockchain network | Your bank, card scheme or wallet provider |
| Can a payment be reversed | No. Once confirmed, only the recipient can send it back | Depends on your bank’s or wallet provider’s dispute rules |
| Value while you play | Coin prices can move sharply in a short time | Stays in your account currency |
| Who can see the payment | Public and permanent on the blockchain, without your name attached | Your bank or wallet provider |
| Casinos licensed in Great Britain | Not accepted | Debit cards are accepted. Credit cards have been barred for gambling since 14 April 2020 |
If you would rather pay by card, bank or e-wallet, our payment methods page covers the alternatives.
The coin decides how quickly a transfer confirms and how its fee is set. Each network produces blocks at its own pace, and a transfer is confirmed when it is included in a block.
| Network | Target block time | What it means for a deposit |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | About 10 minutes on average | The slowest of the five. A single block can come much sooner or later |
| Litecoin | 2.5 minutes | Four blocks in the time Bitcoin averages one |
| Dogecoin | 1 minute | A new block about every minute |
| Ethereum | 12 seconds | Confirmations arrive in seconds. Fees rise when the network is busy |
| TRON | About 3 seconds | The quickest of the five. TRC-20 tokens such as USDT move on this network |
Fees are market prices, not fixed tariffs. On Bitcoin the fee depends on the size of the transaction in bytes and on demand, not on the amount you send. On Ethereum the gas price moves with congestion. Read the fee your wallet shows before you confirm.
Our coin guides go into each one:
Some coins exist on more than one blockchain. As of October 2026 the issuer of USDT supports it on more than a dozen networks, including Ethereum, Tron, Solana, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche and Ton. A USDT deposit address at a casino belongs to one of them, usually labelled ERC-20 for Ethereum or TRC-20 for Tron.
Choose the same network in your wallet or exchange that the casino’s address is for. If you send on a different one, the casino may never receive the coins, and Tether’s own terms say tokens sent to the wrong address can be lost permanently.
If you live in the EU or EEA, note that exchanges treat USDT as non-compliant with the EU’s MiCA rules for stablecoins. Since the end of March 2025 large exchanges have not offered USDT trading to EEA customers, although they still let you deposit and withdraw it. Check what your own exchange sells, and pick a coin that both it and the casino support.
A withdrawal has two stages. First the casino reviews and approves your request, then the network confirms the transfer. The network stage follows the block times above, so the casino’s approval, not the blockchain, usually decides how long a payout takes.
Expect to be asked for ID at some point. A licensed casino can request documents when you deposit, when you withdraw or when something in the account prompts a review, and it can hold a withdrawal until the check is complete. Our fast withdrawal casinos page covers payout speed across all methods.
Crypto is pseudonymous, not anonymous. A transfer does not carry your name, but Bitcoin’s own documentation says every transaction is public, traceable and stored permanently. Add the exchange where you bought the coins and the casino’s own checks, and the trail leads back to you. Malta’s regulator goes further and bars its licensees from accepting coins with built-in anonymising features.
The licence, not the coin, decides what protection you have. Check which licence a casino displays, then read what that licence means where you live.
Casinos licensed by the Gambling Commission do not take crypto deposits. In reports published in September 2025 the Commission said operators in Great Britain may not let customers deposit in cryptocurrency and that it is very unlikely to license a business that does. In April 2025 it described crypto casinos as unlicensed, and illegal if they can be reached from Great Britain. The offence in the Gambling Act 2005 is providing gambling facilities without a licence, so it is aimed at the operator. For you it means a crypto casino sits outside the British system: GAMSTOP only blocks sites run by businesses licensed in Great Britain, so it does not cover one. Our UK casinos page covers the options for British players.
A casino licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority needs the regulator’s approval before it accepts crypto, under a policy published in January 2023. Approved sites must count your limits in conventional-currency terms even when you pay in coins, and show any transaction fee on the cashier page before you confirm.
If a crypto casino shows a Curaçao licence, the regulator behind it is the Curaçao Gaming Authority, which has licensed and supervised online gaming under a new law, the LOK, since 24 December 2024. The authority states that it does not resolve individual disputes between players and casinos and cannot order a casino to pay you. It can act against an operator when complaints point to a breach of the law. Your route for a dispute is therefore the casino’s own complaints process.
The EU regulates crypto-assets and the firms that deal in them through the MiCA regulation. Its stablecoin rules have applied since 30 June 2024 and its rules for exchanges and other service providers since 30 December 2024. MiCA covers the coins, not casinos, so check the casino’s licence against the gambling rules in your own country. Our EU casinos page is the place to start.
Some crypto casino games are labelled provably fair, meaning you can check each round yourself. In the scheme one game studio documents, the game fixes the result before you bet, combines it with a secret string and shows you a hash of the two. A hash is a fingerprint: it gives nothing away, but it would differ if the result were changed.
A match shows the result was set before your bet and was not altered afterwards. It does not tell you the game’s return to player or house edge, and it says nothing about whether the casino pays out.
A wallet does not hold coins. It holds the keys that let you move them. The practical question is who keeps those keys.
Whichever you use:
For UK readers there are two separate questions. The first is the win. Betting and gaming winnings are not chargeable gains under UK tax law, and HMRC’s position is that gambling as such is not a trade, so the win itself is not taxed.
The second is the coin. HMRC treats selling crypto for money, swapping it for another token or using it to pay for something as a disposal for Capital Gains Tax. Moving coins between wallets you own is not a disposal. So a change in the value of the coins themselves, between acquiring them and selling, swapping or spending them, falls within Capital Gains Tax even though the win does not.
Keep a simple log of every deposit and withdrawal: date, coin, amount, value in pounds at the time and the transaction ID. Rules differ in other countries, so check with your own tax authority or an adviser.
Three features of crypto deserve a plan before you deposit.
Use the tools the casino gives you: look for deposit limits and self-exclusion in the account settings before you play. Blocking software such as Gamban stops gambling sites opening on your devices.
If gambling is causing you concern, the National Gambling Helpline is free and open 24 hours a day on 0808 8020 133. It is run by GamCare.
